Should I Buy a New or Used Car?

The question about buying a new or used car comes up a lot. It’s difficult to choose sometimes as you want to make the best decision for your family. We can definitely help you with understanding the differences between buying new or used.

Advantage of New Vehicles

  • Finding the vehicle with the options you want is usually easier.
  • Ford provides great finance and leasing incentives to give you a great flexible payment that fits your budget. Interest rates are usually lower when purchasing a new vehicle.
  • You get the very best technology with every new Ford vehicle you buy.
  • When buying a new vehicle, you don’t need to worry about scratches, dents, dings, accidents, or if something doesn’t work right. When you buy a new vehicle, you are the only owner the vehicle has ever had.

Advantage of Used Vehicles

  • You won’t take a huge hit on the depreciation of a used vehicle like new car buyers do.
  • Typically, premium features such as leather can be found on Pre-Owned vehicles for a lower cost.
  • You can typically get into a higher trim level for less money!
  • It’s easier than ever to see the history of a used vehicle now!

Do I Need an Oil Change?

Do I Need an Oil Change? This is a question most people ask us. Oil is an important part of your vehicle. It helps all parts of your engine run smoothly. Oil also keeps your engine clean, which helps your engine to run more efficiently and makes sure your engine lives longer.

The high temperature and the movement of the parts will break the oil down So to keep your engine running properly and live a longer life, it is important to get an oil change when it is needed.

When is an oil change needed?

Ford publishes recommended service intervals as a guide for you to know when to service your vehicle. Other ways you can identify the right time would be when you hear a clacking sound when starting the vehicle, see the “Change Engine Oil Soon” light burning or a low oil level on the oil dipstick? It is time for an oil change.

At Highbury Ford, we advise getting an oil change done every 8.000 kilometres or every six months, whichever comes first.

Get The Works Package. It is more than just an oil change.

The Works is a complete vehicle checkup that includes an oil change, tire rotation and pressure check, brake inspection, multi-point inspection, fluid top-off, battery test, filter check, plus belts and hoses check.

What happens to your used oil?

The used oil from your vehicle is something really dirty. But although the oil is really dirty, used oil can be cleaned of contaminants so it can be recycled again and again. There are actually many uses for recycled used oil. So at Highbury Ford, we make sure all dirty oil will be picked up and send to an oil-recycling center. So no used oil goes to waste or hurts the environment.

Ford Electrified Vehicles

Electrified vehicles are becoming more and more popular. From hybrid-electrics and plug-in hybrids to all-electrics, Ford has made quite the impression when it comes to electrified-vehicles.

Electrified vehicles, what’s the difference?

Ford offers 3 different types of electrified vehicles. The hybrid, the plug-in hybrid and the all-electric. Find out what the difference is between these 3 to see which one suits your lifestyle the best.

All-Electric

The all-electric vehicle is completely powered by a rechargeable battery. That means the vehicle does not require a drop of gas to hit the road, and it produces zero CO2 emissions.

The battery can be charged by a standard 120V or 240V home charging station and by regenerative braking. This means the battery will be charged when you are braking.

A Ford all-electric is great for shorter everyday trips. For example for every full charge you give the 2016 Ford Focus Electric, it has a Government of Canada-estimated range of 122 kilometres.

Plug-in Hybrid

A plug-in hybrid is similar to the hybrid-electric, but with the option to plug it in and charge the car.

Plug-in hybrids provide a third way to recharge the battery. In addition to regenerative braking and the gas engine, they can recharge the battery by being plugged in.

A Ford plug-in hybrid can run in electric-only mode for shorter trips; but if you’re going for a longer drive, then it’ll work just like a regular hybrid.

Hybrid

A hybrid-electric has both a gas engine and a battery-powered electric motor. The vehicle seamlessly switches between a gas engine, electric motor or a combination of both to deliver fuel efficiency and performance.

The gas engine and regenerative braking automatically recharge the battery pack. Regenerative braking is a technology that recharges the battery by braking.

This vehicle is perfect for longer trips. With gas in the tank, you will be good to go. And with the added power from the battery, you can use less gas.

Should I Buy or Lease?

There can be some tough decisions that need to be made when getting a new vehicle. One of them might be the question “Should I buy or lease my new vehicle?”. At Highbury Ford, we know that the answer to this question can be different for everyone. But to help you make the decision a little bit easier let us explain to you the difference between buying or leasing.

The difference between buying and leasing.

Buying

When you buy a vehicle you own it. You can drive it as much as you want, as far as you want and as long as you want. And you can also customize your vehicle as much as you want. When you buy a vehicle you are probably going to have your vehicle for a while even after the warranty is done.

Leasing

When you decide to lease your vehicle, you don’t really own the vehicle. You choose how long you want it and how many kilometres you want to drive. The best thing about leasing is that when the lease is finished you can get a brand new vehicle. And with shorter terms, your repairs are likely under warranty, which means unexpected maintenance is usually covered. Your job is to keep your car in good condition and avoid anything out of normal wear and use. In addition to wearing and use, if you go over the mileage limit or end the lease early it can cost you more money.

Buying Vs Leasing

So now we know what the difference is let’s find out what is best for you. There is not a correct answer to the question if you should buy or if you should lease. But is if you are easy on your cars, like to switch cars often and like to have the latest technologies, you might want to consider leasing instead of buying.
Do you like to drive a lot of kilometres, like to customize your vehicle and like the idea of owning your own vehicle, buying might be the better option.
We hope with this information we made the decision whether you should buy or lease a bit easier. If you have any questions, our staff at Highbury Ford is more than happy to help you out in finding the best options and vehicle for you.
